Hamilton & Madsen Galleries

Art is a very personal thing… and what I like and what you like are most likely very different.

I have always really liked these two little galleries… the Jeanie Madsen Gallery and the Hamilton Galleries are located right next to each other at 1430 and 1431 Ocean – across the street from The Santa Monica Pier – so if you are in SM at the Beach and love art galleries, you might want to check them out.

I particularly love artist Warren Long’s whimsical and quirky pieces, which can be found at The Hamilton Galleries… dancing skeletons, pigs on pogo sticks, swimming dachshunds. I love it! Fantastical and dreamy! And the frames are just as cool as the paintings themselves! Prints are available!

Located across the courtyard is the funky Jeanie Madsen Gallery, which is more representational of modern, pop, street and wearable art.  A great “conceptual” Gallery mixing Culture, Art and Fashion. As Jeanie Madsen’s former Communications Director states in a Facebook comment: “I know she sees all art as political… Street Art in particular and is super good at foreseeing cultural trends.” You sense that the moment you get into her space. She also represents a lot of artists and has been very instrumental in launching some great careers.

Take a little of the L.A. vibe back home with you!  Art makes a great gift… to yourself 🙂
