Suzy in the Sky
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly?
I have.
I have had flying dreams. I have parasailed. I have ridden on motorcycles, shown gated horses, flown in airplanes and helicopters, yet I have never done or experienced ANYTHING like this. Flying with Pacific Blue Air is a bit like riding a motorcycle in the sky. Approaching speeds in the air and on take-off of 80 – 100 MPH, 2000 ft. above the ground over Los Angeles, over the infamous 405, then soaring high over the Pacific Ocean, was for me, beyond terrifying!
I think I might be too old for this… as I write these words I am still processing my experience.

Earlier this year, driving down the PCH one late afternoon from Ventura County to L.A., I noticed this “thing” hovering above the Santa Monica Mountains over Malibu. It was hard to detect because I couldn’t tell quite what it was. In fact, I had to pull over as I became totally mesmerized by this “thing”. First it would soar and then moments later it would appear as if it were going to crash. OMG! Do I have to watch?! Then up it would go… high… high… higher! Then down, almost to the beach… and up again and back over the mountains! What was that THING? Whatever it was, I tried to imagine who was in it and what they must be feeling.
I wished it were me! I wanted to do it! Not EVER in a million years did I think that I would actually do it.
Well… I did it. Today. Now I know what that “thing” was – it was a Pacific Blue Air “Trike”, a 2-person motorcycle with wings! 🙂
Please check out my video below, which was shot from a GoPro attached to the “Trike”, to get an inkling of what my exhilarating experience was like. As you’ll see, this activity isn’t for the faint of heart! But for the adventurous? Oh, yeah. If you are young (or young-at-heart!) and love the kind of thrills available only from ascending into the Blue Sky above… this is for you! After a 30 or 60-minute ride you might decide that this is something that you want to do long term, to possibly become a licensed pilot!
After my flight was coming to an end – as we landed back in Hawthorne, so grateful to be back on the ground – I thought I knew that NEVER EVER would I do this again! Well, be careful what you say! 🙂 Now that I know what it feels like and what to expect… the idea of Malibu at sunset over the Santa Monica Mountains… Hmmmm? Sounds pretty enticing. Never say never… sign me up! 🙂
And, oh btw… I found out that it was Henry – my pilot on my Pacific Blue Air flight – who was in the aircraft that I had observed over Malibu, months ago!
